Progressive Abolition of Torture and Hope for Survivors

About Us

Who We Are

Progressive Abolition of Torture and Hope for Survivors International (PATHS)

Progressive Abolition of Torture and Hope for Survivors International (PATHS) is a dedicated coalition that champions the rights and dignity of survivors of torture and human rights abuses globally. Our organization comprises passionate advocates, legal experts, healthcare professionals, and community leaders united by a common goal: to end human rights abuses and support survivors in rebuilding their lives. With over 8years of experience, we are committed to fostering resilience and promoting sustainable growth through comprehensive relief and rehabilitation services. Our efforts are grounded in compassion, justice, and a relentless pursuit of a world free from torture, abuse, poverty, and hunger.

Our Story

Torture thrives in silence. PATHS International was born when survivors from conflict zones, authoritarian regimes, and marginalized communities refused to let their suffering be erased. What began as a grassroots network of shared testimonies has grown into a force of systemic change, partnering with the United Nations, local NGOs, and mental health professionals in Cameroon. We amplify silenced voices, dismantle structures that enable abuse, and prove that survival is just the beginning of a story.

Core Values

Survivor-Centered Justice

Survivors lead our strategies, programs, and policies. Their courage fuels our fight.

Uncompromising Accountability:

We expose perpetrators and demand legal, political, and cultural reckoning.

Radical Compassion

Healing is a human right. Our trauma care prioritizes cultural sensitivity, community, and lifelong support.

Global Solidarity

Torture is a universal crime; freedom is a universal demand. We bridge borders to share resources and power.

VISION

Creating a just world free from human rights abuses, where survivors are empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience, and sustainable growth, ensuring hope, justice, and equal opportunities for all.

Mission

We advocate for the elimination of torture, human trafficking, gender-based violence, environmental rights violations, forceful displacement and the systemic discrimination of the less privileged, providing hope and resilience to victims while fostering a dignified future for all.

We support survivors of torture and marginalized individuals through comprehensive services, including legal aid, education, and first-hand career paths in construction, culinary arts, manufacturing, technology, and automotive fields. Our goal is to empower them to rebuild their lives with dignity.

We are committed to the sustainable empowerment of survivors of torture and victims of human rights violations through holistic rehabilitation services. Our mission is to foster resilience and create long-term solutions for education, employment, and personal growth. We aim to alleviate poverty and hunger by implementing food security programs and sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring dignity and hope for vulnerable communities.

What We Do

Advocate for Human Rights

We stand at the forefront of global movements to expose, challenge, and dismantle systems that perpetuate torture and human rights abuses. Through campaigns, policy advocacy, and survivor-led testimonies, we amplify voices the world tries to silence.

Provide Legal Aid

Justice should never be out of reach. We offer pro bono legal assistance to survivors, ensuring they have representation in courtrooms, before international bodies, and within government systems that often fail them.

Offer Psychological Support

The scars of torture are not always visible. Our trained counselors and trauma specialists deliver culturally sensitive, survivor-centered mental health services — helping survivors find peace, agency, and belonging

Deliver Medical Assistance

Access to medical care is a human right. We connect survivors with essential healthcare, from emergency treatments to long-term rehabilitation services, prioritizing both physical and emotional recovery.

Facilitate Education

Knowledge is a tool of liberation. We offer educational programs, literacy initiatives, and career mentorships to empower survivors and vulnerable youth to reclaim control over their futures.

Support Skill Development

We equip individuals with practical, marketable skills in fields such as construction, culinary arts, agriculture, digital literacy, and technology — helping them secure livelihoods and rebuild independence

Promote Economic Empowerment

Survivors deserve economic dignity. We implement microfinance projects, entrepreneurship training, and job placement programs designed to enhance financial security and community resilience.

Conduct Social Impact Evaluations

Accountability matters. We continuously assess the effectiveness, inclusivity, and impact of our programs — ensuring they meet the needs of those we serve and contribute meaningfully to systemic change.

Foster Community Engagement

Change is rooted in solidarity. We collaborate with local communities to build safe spaces, awareness initiatives, and peer-led support circles — transforming trauma into shared strength.

Collaborate with Organizations

No movement succeeds in isolation. We partner with local, regional, and international human rights organizations, legal networks, and mental health practitioners to amplify our reach and impact.

Implement Food Security Programs

Hunger is violence in another form. Through sustainable agricultural initiatives and emergency food distributions, we address food insecurity as a critical component of survivor care and community development.

Run Awareness Campaigns

We believe education can dismantle oppression. Our public campaigns  from “BreakTheChain” to survivor exhibitions  spotlight the realities of torture and empower communities to demand change.

Provide Rehabilitation Services

Healing extends beyond hospitals. We offer comprehensive services including trauma therapy, physical rehabilitation, vocational training, and safe housing to support holistic survivor recovery.

Advocate for Displaced Persons

Forcibly displaced people face profound vulnerability. We fight for their rights, provide humanitarian assistance, and ensure their protection within asylum systems and resettlement processes.

Develop Empowerment Programs

We cultivate leadership from within survivor communities — providing platforms, resources, and advocacy training that enable them to champion their own rights and uplift others still trapped in silence.

Why It Matters

Every initiative we undertake at PATHS Intl is rooted in the belief that survivors are not victims of fate, but architects of a better world. Together, through courage, community, and compassion, we can create a future where torture is relic, not reality.

The Journey of Pedro Mangue

Founder’s Story | PATHS International

Pedro Mangue was born in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to an Equatorial Guinean father and a Cameroonian mother. His early life was shaped by the rich cultural tapestry of Central Africa, where the values of resilience, family, and community were instilled in him from a young age.

His academic journey began in Equatorial Guinea, continued through high school in Cameroon, and ultimately led him to Nigeria, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Calabar. While these years laid the foundation for his understanding of science and human well-being, it was his lived experiences that would ultimately define his mission.

Before relocating to the United States in 2011, Pedro worked in the oil sector — a profession that exposed him to the glaring disparities between power and vulnerability, privilege and poverty. However, it was his transition into the humanitarian space that transformed his worldview. In America, he encountered a deeply embedded spirit of compassion and civic responsibility. The culture of humanitarianism that surrounded him left a lasting impression and inspired him to reimagine his purpose.

In 2017, Pedro’s journey found its true calling with the founding of PATHS International — Progressive Abolition of Torture and Hope for Survivors. Driven by the haunting testimonies of survivors from war zones and repressive regimes, Pedro envisioned a global platform where justice would be survivor-led, healing would be holistic, and silence would never be an option.

Since then, he has helped shape PATHS International into a global movement rooted in radical compassion and unshakable advocacy. Under his leadership, the organization has partnered with survivors, legal experts, mental health professionals, and international bodies to confront torture in all its forms — from legal systems that fail survivors to cultural norms that perpetuate abuse.

Pedro believes that healing is a right, not a privilege, and that justice must be pursued not only in courts, but also in communities and collective memory. Through PATHS, he continues to amplify the voices of the silenced, restore dignity to the oppressed, and unite people across borders under the banner of human rights.

Today, Pedro Mangue remains a powerful force in the global fight against torture. His story is not just one of personal transformation — it is a testament to what can be achieved when pain is met with purpose, and when a single life commits fully to the dignity of all.
